Song of Songs Micrography (Original art)

$300.00

Micrography, or tiny writing, is an ancient tradition developed my medieval Jewish artists (some say to get around the biblical prohibition on “graven images”). This unique piece uses the text of Song of Songs (ש׳ר השירים) v. 1–5 to create an intricate mandala or knot over a soft, vibrant watercolor background.

Considered the most romantic book in the bible, Song of Songs is full of love poems and lush imagery; it is the source of the famous phrase “אני לדודי ודודי לי” “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine”. The mandala/knot design is made with one “line”, signifying the intricacy, wholeness, and eternity of the love between two people. The watercolor and calligraphy can never be repeated exactly, making this art piece as one-of-a-kind as that love.

Watercolor and sumi ink on 9”x12” cold press watercolor paper with 1” border all around. No frame.
